What Are Immediate Load Implants and All-on-4?

What Are Immediate Load Implants and All-on-4?

In conventional implant treatment, after the implant is placed, there is a wait of a few months for it to fuse with the bone, and then the permanent tooth is made. In some suitable cases, however, temporary teeth can be planned shortly after the implant is placed. This approach is called “immediate loading.”

What Is an Immediate Load Implant?

It means attaching a temporary restoration to the implant on the day it is placed or shortly afterward. For this method to be used, the implant must have enough stability at the moment it is placed (primary stability). The permanent teeth are made after the implant has fully fused with the bone.

What Is All-on-4?

It is a method for jaws with no remaining teeth, in which a fixed prosthesis is planned on four implants placed in strategic positions. In suitable cases, the back implants may be placed at an angle to reduce the need for additional bone grafting.

Who May Be Considered?

  • Patients with suitable bone quality and quantity
  • Those whose general health allows surgery
  • Those whose habits that create excessive force, such as teeth clenching, are under control

Not every patient is suitable for these methods. Suitability is assessed with a clinical examination and 3D dental CT. When they are not suitable, a conventional implant protocol or additional surgical procedures may be recommended.

Important Points About the Process

  • Even with temporary teeth in place, you should follow the soft diet your dentist recommends during the healing period.
  • The permanent restoration is made after the implants have fully fused with the bone.
  • Regular checkups and oral care are important for long-term success.
