Removable Dentures or Implant-Supported Dentures?

Removable Dentures or Implant-Supported Dentures?

There are different denture options for replacing missing teeth. Which option is suitable is determined by the number of missing teeth, the condition of the bone, general health, and the person’s expectations.

Removable Dentures

These are dentures that the patient can put in and take out. If all teeth are missing, a complete denture is used; if some teeth remain, a partial denture is used.

  • No surgery is required
  • They can be removed for cleaning
  • Retention problems may occur, especially in the lower jaw
  • Over time, due to bone loss, regular check-ups and relining when needed may be required

Implant-Supported Dentures

These are dentures supported by implants. They can be planned as fixed (not removed by the patient) or removable (attaching to implants and removable).

  • Retention and chewing comfort may improve
  • Surgery is required to place the implants
  • Sufficient bone and suitable general health are required
  • Regular care and check-ups are important

Factors Considered When Choosing

  • Bone volume and quality (assessed with CT imaging)
  • General health
  • Oral hygiene habits
  • The person’s expectations for comfort and use

Both options have advantages and limitations. The right option for you is decided together with your dentist after an examination. For more information, you can visit our dental prosthetics and dental implants pages.
